Frequently Asked Questions

What is an E- Collars and how does it work?

An “e-collar” is a collar with a stimulation mechanism. The collar is controlled by a remote that the handler holds. The remote allows you to maintain full control of your dog for up to 400 yards! Therefore, it gives your dog freedom and it saves you from worrying about your dog running off! It is not used as a punishment or a “shock” as many people assume. It is simply used as a training device for communicating with your dog. It produces a subtle electrical current between two contact points located on the collar. In the old days this type of collar was used as a “shock collar” and many inexperienced dog owners tried to use this device to scare their dogs into submission. In the proven training method we teach, your dog is never “shocked into submission” or abused. Unlike a shocking device, the e-collar is used to get the dog’s attention and keep it focused on listening to the handler. It is the equivalent of someone tapping your shoulder to get your attention or setting your phone on vibrate so it will get your attention when someone is calling you. We teach the dog to listen to those “taps” and that the “taps” mean, “I am trying to get your attention”.

Shock Collars vs E- Collars?

The term “shock collar” for some, has a negative connotation. Many people incorrectly assume that electronic collars cause physical harm or lasting damage to a dog as a form of punishment. This couldn’t be farther from the truth. Electric collars are designed to get your dog’s attention, not as a form of punishment. When used in combination with positive reinforcement, E-collars provide the feedback that dogs need to learn when to pay attention to the handler. E-collars do not burn or cause lasting damage to a dog.

Will the E-Collar hurt my dog?

No, not if used properly. One common misconception is the e-collar will burn their skin. This is false. Other people think that it is like being shocked with a taser. This is also false. We are dog trainers because we LOVE dogs and we would never do anything to harm them in any way! Furthermore, we would never do anything to a dog that we would not do to ourselves.

Do you have a payment plan?

Yes we do! In order to secure a class start date, a minimum 50% deposit must be paid towards your training package, and then make equal monthly payments leading to your dog’s start date. Training class dates fill up fast and we’re usually booked 2-3 months out, but we can push the start date out as far as you desire to make the equal monthly payments fit your budget. There’s no penalty for missed payments. The bottom line is, your training package must be paid in full 24hrs prior to your Board & Train start date, or your dog must be rescheduled for a new start date during the next availability.

At what age can we start E-Collar training?

We do not start e-collar training on a dog until it is at least 5 months old (20 weeks).

What if I have a small dog?

That is fine! E-Collar training works on a dog of ANY SIZE, ANY SHAPE, ANY BREED, and ANY AGE (above 5 months). E-Collar has a micro collar for small dogs as well.

Is the E-Collar waterproof?

Yes, it is waterproof up to 90 feet underwater! Your dog can wear it in the lake, river, pool, ocean, or even bath time! However, when done swimming, take it off and rinse the collar off because sand, dirt, and/or debris can get on it. Then dry it off, and leave it off until your dog is completely dry. Wet skin is softer and more likely to get pressure sores. It would be like us walking around with wet shoes on all day; we would get blisters.

What’s the Cancellation Policy?

Refunds or changes in scheduling must be received before two weeks of the program starting to ensure we are able to fill the slot. Cancelations made between 14 and 7 days before starting of the program will incur a 20% non-refundable or transferable penalty. Cancelations under a week will incur a 50% non-refundable or transferable penalty. If you do not arrive or contact us within 4 days after your drop off schedule date your board/train will be cancelled without a refund. All refunds will incur a 3% charge to cover our merchant processing fees.

How long should I train with my pup after each lesson?

We suggest that you are prepared to implement what is taught, daily for at least 45 minutes a day between each training session.

Can I get more than one dog trained  together for a board and train?

Yes, you can. If you have more than one dog that you want trained, we can train up to two at a time to train together. If you have more than two dogs that you want trained, we will schedule them for classes two at a time. You’ll also get to take advantage of our Multiple Dog Discount!

Are the lessons everyday?

Lessons are once a week. Whether you book four Basic Obedience lessons, or eight Basic & Advanced Obedience lessons, they will all be taught once a week on Saturdays. In-Home lessons are also taught once a week, but will be coordinated with the client for the best available time.

If I book a package and want to upgrade to a different package, can I do that?

Absolutely! If you’ve already booked a training package and you decide you would like your pup to get more advanced training, just give us a call and we would be happy to upgrade your training package for you.

Can you fix my dog’s aggression or anxiety issues?

Obedience training can help reduce or alleviate many issues that any dog may have, but the ultimate goal is to provide better behavior, focus, and purpose for the dog. Although the training we offer is top notch, we cannot, nor anyone else, realistically ever claim to “fix” a dog’s issues. We can only help to manage and control it.
